Synthesis and structure of Al clusters supported on TiO2„110...: A scanning tunneling microscopy study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Al clusters supported on TiO2(110) have been investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy. Al interacts strongly with the TiO2(110) surface at room temperature and becomes oxidized by abstracting oxygen from the interface region of the substrate. Highly oxidized Al clusters were found to disorder the TiO2 substrate in the low coverage regime ~0.05 ML! illustrating that Al exhibits a strong chemical interaction with the oxide substrate. Distinct changes in the TiO2(110) substrate from a ‘‘row’’ structure to a ‘‘net’’ structure due to Al interacting with oxygen in the topmost layer of the substrate are also observed. © 1998 American Vacuum Society. @S0734-2101~98!09404-4#

Modeling heterogeneous catalysts: metal clusters on planar oxide supports
Model catalysts consisting of Au and Ag clusters of varying size have been prepared on single crystal TiO2(110) and ultra-thin films of TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3. The morphology, electronic structure, and catalytic properties of these Au and Ag clusters have been investigated using low-energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEIS), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscop...
متن کاملImaging gold clusters on TiO2(110) at elevated pressures and temperatures
Variable temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has been used to image oxide-supported nanoclusters of Au at temperatures from 300 to 450 K and oxygen pressures from 10−10 to 4 Torr. Oxygen-induced morphological changes of the TiO2(1 × 2) reconstruction are apparent at room temperature and prolonged exposure (∼3 × 103 L (langmuir)) at 10−4 Torr oxygen. Gold clusters with diameters smal...
متن کاملCharacterization of metal clusters (Pd and Au) supported on various metal oxide surfaces (MgO and TiO2)
Au clusters supported on the TiO2~001!/Mo~100! surface and Pd clusters supported on the MgO~100!/Mo~100! surface have been studied using temperature programmed desorption, ion scattering spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Three dimensional growth has been observed at 300 K for both cases. The adsorption energy of Au on the TiO2~001! surface has bee...
متن کاملThe nucleation sites of Ag clusters grown by vapor deposition on a TiO 2 ( 110 ) - 1 · 1 surface
We present results of a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) study of the nucleation and growth of silver clusters grown by vapor deposition on a rutile TiO2(110)-1 · 1 surface. We have scanned, with atomic resolution, the same surface area before and after Ag deposition, to determine the relationship between the nucleation sites and various surface defects. We have found that small precursor st...
متن کاملDirect Visualization of Au Atoms Bound to TiO2(110) O-Vacancies
Au nanoparticles supported on reducible metal oxide surfaces are known to be active catalysts for a number of reactions including CO oxidation and hydrogen production. The exact choice of a metal oxide support has been shown to have a marked impact on activity, suggesting that interactions between Au and the support play a key role in catalysis. For TiO2, a model substrate for Au catalysis, it ...
